India’s leading online food delivery service company, Zomato, recently announced a formal period leave policy for all its female employees, which has received mixed reactions from both men and women.

While the policy is being hailed as progressive and inclusive, it is notable that 95% of India’s woman workforce is employed in the unorganized sector and the government has not been able to formulate a standard period policy for this class of women in any respect. This is also when WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) facilities for women remain poor, hence the question of attaining the basic right of effective Menstrual Health Management (MHM) is still a distant reality in India.

In this light, since we have been working on making menstrual health a basic right for women in India, it is important to understand the legal and logistical nuances of an ideal policy framework and the manner to arrive at a standard and class inclusive period policy in India.

Join us for an online discussion with experts to understand the way forward for effective Menstrual Health Management in India.
